Barn owl ‘Jess’

This is Jess, a young barn owl that was raised by hand at the Burren Birds of Prey centre – it was amazing to watch that hapless, fluffy (and unfortunately rather ugly) thing grow into a gorgeous, white-and-golden beauty. I’m gutted that I don’t have a picture of Jess as a fluffball, but what can ya do. They grow up too fast – the next time I was there after first meeting her, she’d already outgrown most of her baby feathers! But that’s one of the real joys of volunteering at the Centre – you get to know the birds, and gain a real appreciation and love for these beautiful creatures.
