blooming gorse bush
Gorse. You will find this spikey plant all over Ireland, and lots of it.
Prickly, growing everywhere it likes, and with fascinating gnarly branches growing like miniature trees. Don’t get too close, it’s got good defense mechanisms in the form of thousands of hard, dark-green spikes instead of leaves.
Still, I love gorse. During the spring, at least – because it turns the still-barren landscapes into a sea of bright yellow, and fills the air with a sweet lingering scent that reminds me of warm coconut for some reason.
