A very special book launch

Declan Cairney launched his book ‘Raptors – a Pocket Guide to Birds of Prey & Owls‘ last Saturday.

Declan is 11 years old.

He’s one of my fellow volunteers at the Burren Birds of Prey Centre, and you should see this guy with the birds – he is absolutely brilliant. His passion and love for birds of prey shines through every second, he knows his stuff, and loves sharing that knowledge with visitors.

Declan wrote the texts for the book, but not only that, he also illustrated it with drawings of each species of raptor he discribes. It’s absolutely marvellous. When I was asked to provide a cover photograph, I was delighted. How could you say no? It’s such a cool project, and fair play to Declan for bringing this book, his book, all the way to being published.

Any proceeds from the sale of the book are going to a great charity: The Golden Eagle Trust.
The Golden Eagle Trust is the foundation behind the re-introduction programmes of Golden Eagles, White-tailed Sea Eagles and Red Kites here in Ireland.

Here’s Declan and his family, handing a cheque for 500 euros to Lorcan O’Toole of the Golden Eagle Trust:

What a brilliant day, and what an achievement. Well done Declan! Looking forward to the next book :)
